A vote will take place on Saturday regarding funding for broadband Internet infrastructure for the Hornby and Denman Islands.
The estimated cost is nearly $ 7.6 million and 90 percent would be covered by grants.
The remaining 10 percent of funding would come from the community.
“The proposed new service would provide high-speed Internet access to homes and businesses on Hornby and Denman Islands. This is something that I have heard many community members ask for over the past few years, ”said Daniel Arbor, Director of the Comox Valley Regional Electoral District. “The cost of this service would be around $ 40 per year for a ten-year period for a property valued at $ 500,000. After ten years, it will drop to zero dollars and you will continue to enjoy the CityWest services you signed up for, including telephone, cable and Internet.
Voting takes place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Denman Island Seniors Center and New Horizons Seniors Hall.
A special vote will also be held Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Denman Island Seniors Center and from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Hornby Island Community Hall.
Registration will take place during the voting period.
