Internet services shut down in Bhilwara amid tensions over alleged murder of youths

Tension reigned in the Bhilwara region of Rajasthan after a youth was allegedly stabbed to death on Tuesday. A 22-year-old boy was reportedly killed, following which several Hindu organizations gathered and protested. Meanwhile, internet services were suspended in the district on Wednesday following the incident.

Following the youth’s alleged murder, Hindu groups including the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Hindu Jagran Manch called for a bandh in the area. Amid protests over the alleged murder, the district administration has informed that internet services will remain closed until Thursday. “Internet services in Bhilwara will remain suspended until 6am on Thursday, May 12,” Bhilwara District Collector Ashish Modi informed.

The administration also tightened security in the area following tensions after the alleged stabbing incident. It is pertinent to note that this is the second time in a week that tensions have erupted in Bhilwara. Earlier in the week, clashes erupted in the Sanganer town of Bhilwara when a group beat two people and set a bicycle on fire. Mobile internet services were suspended in the district on Thursday after the incident.

Tensions in Bhilwara for the second consecutive time in a week

Earlier last week, a group of masked men attacked two people in the Sanganer area of ​​Bhilwara, setting the stage for clashes. Police said the attackers, who were wearing masks, also set fire to a bicycle. Based on the report of the Bhilwara District Collector, the Divisional Commissioner ordered the suspension of mobile internet service in the district from 4am Thursday to 4am Friday to bring the law and order situation under control.

Bhilwara Collector Ashish Modi had said the action was taken to avoid any escalation of tensions in the region. He then called on the population not to spread any rumors and to maintain peace and harmony in the region. Police then began probing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the miscreants behind the attacks. The District Collector had also informed that the police had been on high alert since the attacks. Now, the second attack in a week has taken place in the area belonging to the state of Rajasthan ruled by Ashok Gehlot.
