PS Plus Premium cloud streaming does not support PS5 games

One of the advantages of PS Plus Premium in countries that offer it, it’s the ability to stream games to PS5, PS4, or even PC. This means you don’t need to download any software, you can just get started, but with caveats like reduced image quality and heavy reliance on the quality of your internet connection.

But while you can stream PS4, PS3, PSP, PS2 and same PS1 games with PS Plus Premium there will be no support for PS5 games. It means that All PS Plus Games like Returnal, which is exclusive to the PS5, will be available for download only. The same goes for cross-gen releases like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, where you can download the PS5. and PS4 versions, but only stream the PS4 version.

The reason for this is likely that Sony’s cloud streaming infrastructure is built on PS4 and PS3 hardware, so it will likely need to be upgraded to support PS5 hardware at some point. To be fair, we don’t know how big the audience is for game streaming anyway, but that’s yet another caveat for PS Plus Premium that gives the whole thing a somewhat messy vibe. It’s worth remembering that while PS5 games can only be downloaded, PS3 games can only be broadcast continuously.

Sony adds that “streaming access for select titles, including classic games, will occur after the launch of the PS Plus Premium plan” and that “availability may also vary by title.”
